In June 1965 Late Nandiniben Divatia, a qualified trained social worker laid the foundation of a non-profit NGO. Society for the Vocational Rehabilitation of the Retarded (SVRR) along with her other dedicated friends and supporters. The aim, as the name suggests, was to provide vocational training & rehabilitation to the intellectually challenged men and women. The seed sown by Nandiniben has since grown into a fullblown tree. Starting with only five trainees & two borrowed sewing machines in a small balcony of a flat near Congress House in Mumbai, SVRR has since spread it activities to five centres, two urban and three Rural Centres.
Till 1990 SVRR was training only the boys. In 1991 the girls section was introduced in the name of Smt. Saudamini Mehta Kanya Udyogalaya at Sindhi Galli near Khetwadi. In 1995 Municipal Corporation Shifted us to Aryanagar Municipal School, Tulsiwadi. In 1995 we have been shifted to present premises at Tardeo Municipal School Building, Bane Compound in 2012. In December 2022, newly open additional branch is nearby in Tardeo.
