In June 1965 Late Nandiniben Divatia, a qualified trained social worker laid the foundation of a non-profit NGO. Society for the Vocational Rehabilitation of the Retarded (SVRR) along with her other dedicated friends and supporters. The seed sown by Nandiniben has since grown into a fullblown tree. Starting with only five trainees & two borrowed sewing machines in a small balcony of a flat near Congress House in Mumbai, SVRR has since spread it activities to five centres, two urban and three Rural Centres.
Till 1990 SVRR was training only the boys. In 1991 the girls section was introduced in the name of Smt. Saudamini Mehta Kanya Udyogalaya at Sindhi Galli near Khetwadi. In 1995 Municipal Corporation Shifted us to Aryanagar Municipal School, Tulsiwadi. Since 2012 we operate from Tardeo Municipal School Building, Bane Compound.
